Watch the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hdCSb3-Oqo
What equipment is required to play hockey?
View equipment requirements at Hockey Canada's website. Best local shops: Docksteader Source for Sports (24th Ave + King George Blvd.) and Cyclone Taylor Sports (152nd St + 54A Ave). Check the Semiahmoo Hockey Shop & Swap page on Facebook for gently used gear.
Do the Ravens have all-female teams?
Semiahmoo Ravens Hockey is co-ed. For all-female, check out Surrey Falcons at surreyfalcons.ca.
Is there body contact/hitting in hockey?
U7–U13 are non-body-checking. U15–U21 C/Recreational are non-body-checking. U15 and U18 Rep hockey has body checking (clinic required). U15/U18 C can be played without contact.
Can we make friend & coach requests?
The association does not take friend or coach requests at the association level (1000+ players). You can email your Division Manager after evaluations, but nothing is guaranteed.
What arenas and facilities do we use?
Home arenas are Centennial and South Surrey Arenas. See all facilities on our Facilities page.
When does the season start and end?
Season starts in September, ends in March prior to Spring Break. Runs over long weekends, takes a break for Christmas (unless in a tournament).
How much does it cost to play hockey?
Registration fees vary by age group. Additional team fees apply: U6 team fees ~$100/player; recreational/C teams ~$350; rep teams with paid coach $2,500–$5,500. Subsidies available through KidSport, JumpStart, A4K, and Hockey Canada Assist Fund.
What is 'Rep' Hockey?
Highest caliber hockey in any association. ~15 players + 2 goalies representing the most skilled players. Expect 1-2 practices, 1 development session, 1 home game, 1 away game per week plus 2-3 tournaments per season. About twice the time commitment of house league.
How much do I have to volunteer and why?
Each family is required to volunteer a minimum of 5 hours per season. If not met, the $500 volunteer deposit cheque will be cashed.
Do you offer any camps?
Yes — last two weeks of August at Centennial Arena (skill development, power skating, high performance, goalie camps). Many camps sell out within 24 hours of registration opening.
What is 'Rep' Hockey vs. Academies?
Ravens Rep Programs: $5,000–$7,000/year, professional non-parent coaches, local ice, Lower Mainland travel, Provincial championship eligible, attend school of your choice, other sports allowed. Academy Programs: $18,000–$30,000/year, daytime practices, attend specific schools or arena classrooms, frequent travel.
What should I know about unsanctioned hockey programs?
Non-member/unsanctioned leagues are not affiliated with Hockey Canada. If your child registers in a non-member league, they will immediately lose all Hockey Canada membership privileges for the remainder of the season.
